In-home newborn session

Kayla and Jimmy welcomed their first baby, little James, back in early April, and I had the privilege of taking some newborn family photos of them a couple of weeks ago. This little baby was the answer to many prayers by his parents, and it is evident how much he is loved by so many people - especially his big fur-sister, Kali!

I met James and his parents in their home for his newborn photos. I think that there is something so beautiful about newborn photos, and I am forever impressed by the artists that can pose newborns and create beautiful scenes and portraits. As time goes on, I love lifestyle newborn photography more and more. The first few days and weeks at home with a newborn baby are some of the most intimate and vulnerable times in your life, and the honor of coming into your home and capturing those moments is not lost on me. Taking photos in your home provides a different level of comfort and intimacy. I still appreciate the posed newborn photos, and will always try to get some of baby by himself (I love a good baby in a basket photo), but I love the emotion that is captured with these lifestyle photos, and the photos of your family just being together and enjoying each other are so special. I want you to look back at the photos and remember what it felt like to hold that tiny babe in your arms. Remember what he smelled like, what his cries sounded like, how his little nose wrinkled up while he slept. I want these photos to take you back to those early days, the details of which are so easily forgotten from the sleep deprivation and just surviving those first few weeks. The newborn stage is so precious, and goes by so quickly, I love helping families document that time while it lasts.
